Nurturing a future-ready skilled workforce involves creating an environment that promotes continuous learning and development of skills that are in demand in the job market.
This can be achieved through various means such as investing in training programs, promoting a culture of innovation and creativity, providing opportunities for upskilling and reskilling, and collaborating with educational institutions to align curriculum with industry needs.
It has become exceedingly important to ensure that the workforce is equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to adapt to changing technological and economic trends and remain competitive in the global marketplace.
The Impact of Emerging Technologies
Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), robotics, and the Internet of Things (IoT) are changing the way we work and live. While these technologies offer numerous benefits such as increased efficiency, accuracy, and productivity, they also pose challenges to the workforce. As these technologies become more prevalent in the workplace, it is crucial for workers to develop new skills to keep up with the changing demands of the job market.

The Need
The issues around future-ready skilled workforce are multi-dimensional, transboundary, and increasingly becoming international in nature. These issues range from lack of appropriate training and education to pace of technological changes to aging population in some societies to brain circulation and unequal distribution of skilled professionals to inclusivity issues in workforce.
Nurturing a future-ready skilled workforce is important for several reasons. Firstly, it helps organizations stay competitive in an ever-evolving global marketplace. By having a workforce that is equipped with the latest skills and knowledge, organizations can adapt to changing market conditions and emerging technologies.

Around this backdrop, CII in partnership with Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India is hosting a Special Panel on “Nurturing Future-Ready Skilled Workforce” on 2 May 2023, at 1100-1230 in Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. The panel will deliberate on key themes and exchange ideas to develop future-ready skilled workforce.
This discussion will explore key policy issues on matters such as, the impact of emerging technologies on the workforce; the impact of demographic and social changes as well as the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion in developing a future ready skilled workforce, etc.
