India is projected to reach the size of a US$ 5 trillion economy by 2025 and is currently the third largest economy in terms of purchasing power parity. With this, India has become the centre stage of global attention and is expected to become a major driver of the global economy in the coming years. To enunciate this emerging “New India” phenomenon as well as its role as a global growth engine in the new world economic order, the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Ministry of Commerce and Industry in partnership with the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Government of Andhra Pradesh is organizing the major international summit – The Partnership Summit 2018.

Partnership Summit over the Years

The Partnership Summit was a key CII initiative that was started in 1995, CII’s centenary year. Since then, the Summit is held every year in partnership with DIPP and the Host State Government.

The Partnership Summit over the years has become one of the most important international business events in the country. With over 23 years of active engagement and collaboration of India with the rest of the world, the Summit has established itself as an ideal ground for business networking and sharing of societal concerns.

The first Partnership Summit was held in Kolkata in 1995 and had the participation of 1,500 national and international delegates from all over the world. Since then, the Summit has grown in size and scale with each edition adding more countries, delegates and participants.

Over the years, countries such as Canada, UK, USA, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, South Africa, Australia, Bangladesh, Singapore, Indonesia and many others have participated in the summit. The summit also regularly features Heads of State and Government, Ministers, senior bureaucrats, academicians and thought leaders from all over the world to stimulate discussion and generate debate on the best strategies and policies to help countries overcome the obstacles to building competitiveness.

The Partnership Summit 2018

This year, the Partnership Summit enters its 24th edition and would take place in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, from Saturday, 24, February to Monday, 26 February 2018. This year’s Summit aims to provide opportunities to look at how both advanced and emerging economies can collaborate and build new bridges to foster balanced and equitable growth.

Shri M Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Vice President of India; Shri Arun Jaitley, Hon’ble Minister of Finance and Corporate Affairs, Government of India; Shri Suresh Prabhu, Hon’ble Minister for Commerce & Industry, Government of India and Shri N Chandrababu Naidu, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh will address the Inaugural Session of the Partnership Summit. Senior ministers and officials from both the Central and State Government as well as a galaxy of leading industrialists will also be participating at the Summit.

The major objectives of this year’s Summit include discussions on global developmental priorities and charting India’s global integration competitiveness by bringing together various stakeholders from government and industry to facilitate policy dialogues. The focus would also be on recognizing and felicitating small and medium enterprises, public and private sector industry champions for developing cutting edge technologies, innovation, scale and adeptness.

Key plenary sessions would be held to discuss major global geo-economic themes that are of interest to India and other emerging economies. Some of the themes this year include – “Future Sectors: Can India Lead Industry 4.0?”; “The Matrix of Skills: Leveraging India’s Workforce”; “Connectivity and Communication: Fast-Tracking Infrastructure Development and Financing”; and “Starship Enterprise: The Universe of Start-ups”, among others.

Andhra Pradesh has been one of the foremost states to have developed sector-specific policies. Forming industrial clusters and developing infrastructure, such as biotech parks, textile parks and hardware parks, has been the state’s key strategy to attract investments in various industries. Natural resources, policy incentives and infrastructure in the state are favourably suited for investments in major sectors such as drugs and pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, IT and ITeS, mines and minerals, textiles, leather and tourism.

Along with highlighting investment opportunities in India, the Summit will showcase the host state of Andhra Pradesh, highlighting its investment opportunities. Mr N Chandra Babu Naidu, Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, would lead the discussions in a special plenary session focused on the emerging potential of the state.

Several roundtables would be held in the Summit including CEOs roundtables and Champion Sectors roundtables to promote business opportunities and networking with policymakers and other stakeholders.

A notable feature of the Summit would be structured B2B meetings which would facilitate the investment meets of stakeholders from partner countries and states.

The Summit will also feature a rendezvous with a transformational leader and social icon, Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Founder, the Art of Living. The Government of Andhra Pradesh is further hosting a cultural evening to bring the best of the state’s performances and cuisine to delegates.

Recognizing the increasing importance of visual communication today, this year’s Summit would feature a virtual exhibition represented by the India@2022 segment that aims to take exhibition technology to the next level. The exhibition will showcase an exciting array of visual media that promises to take people’s breath away through visitor interaction and immersive technology.

CII and the Partnership Summit

Through the years, CII has worked with the Government to create, channelize and strengthen the growth drivers that would ensure an equitable and inclusive trajectory for India’s development. The Partnership Summit is CII’s key forum for dialogue among nations for collaborative efforts on global issues.

This year’s Partnership Summit would provide a great opportunity of interaction between policymakers, investors, industry leaders, and entrepreneurs, among others and would provide a unique platform to present ready-to-invest projects, generate new business ideas and finance opportunities. With this backdrop, Partnership Summit 2018 would carry forward the agenda of strengthening partnerships between India and the world.
